Soft pastels are an incredibly vibrant and energizing medium for art.  Pastels are visually and tactually stimulating.  I realized through the past year of painting that I enjoy painting places that strike me with strong feelings.   I grew up on the Kansas Flint Hills in a rock house.   I enjoyed nature every day and often found the colors and light in the sky inspiring.  Painting is pure enjoyment for my soul and I relish getting messy and releasing my creative spirit.  Most of my work is landscapes of Maine, and other travel destinations.

In my exploration of art in midlife I have been attracted to learning lithography, drawing, pastels, and printing and I was privileged to be mentored by Frances Hodsdon, a well respected print artist and teacher.  The Whitefield Artists Drawing Group with Barbara Vanderbilt was also a significant part of my learning and mentoring process.  Practicing pastels painting has been a 15-year journey.  The Maine Art Gallery, Portland Gallery, Boothbay Artist Foundation, Pastel Painters of Cape Cod, Washington Maine Library, Damariscotta Grill Restaurant, and Waldoboro Theatre have been very generous to show my pastel work.  I’m a past member of The Maine Art Gallery and Maine Pastel Painters.

I worked 25 years as a Masters of Social Work Clinical Therapist for adults, children, and families with substance use problems and mental health challenges.   Recent retirement from the profession gives me more time for art.  My husband Rick is a furniture maker and operates Gallion Woodworks and Clary Lake Woodworking School.  We own and operate Clary Lake Bed and Breakfast in Jefferson, Maine.

My art work can be seen here, in the Pastel Gallery.  My art work is also be seen at Clary Lake Bed and Breakfast.  Even though there is no sign for advertising my art, people are welcome to drop by and visit my home gallery from 1-4 PM or call for an appointment.  The sign at the kitchen door that will let you know if I am available or when I’ll be back.
